About
We started SkillXGen because the industry kept hiring people it had to retrain.
Not another course platform. A training company run by people who still work in security, built around the only measure that matters: whether you can do the job.
Why we exist
Every security lead we know has the same complaint. Candidates arrive with a stack of certifications and cannot read a log file. They can name the phases of an incident response lifecycle and have never sat through one. The training industry has optimized for what is easy to sell and easy to grade, and the gap between that and the job has been widening for a decade.
We built SkillXGen to close it. That meant giving up the things that make an education business scale comfortably — recorded content, unlimited seats, automated marking — and keeping the things that make people employable: live instruction from practitioners, environments that behave like production, work that gets reviewed by a human, and career support that continues past the last session.
It is a slower business. It produces people who get hired, and who are still in the industry three years later. We think that is the only version of this worth running.
What we believe
Four positions we don't compromise on.
Skills over certificates
A certificate proves you sat an exam. A portfolio proves you can do the work. We build the second and treat the first as optional.
Live over recorded
The most valuable moment in learning is the one where you're stuck. Recorded content cannot help you there. A practitioner in the room can.
Proof over promises
We don't publish numbers we can't defend, and we don't guarantee outcomes we don't control. Everything we claim, we can show you.
Careers over enrollments
If a track isn't right for you, we say so on the call — even when that costs us the enrollment. A wrong placement helps nobody twice.
Who teaches
Practitioners, in the room, every week.
Every mentor still works in the field they teach. That is a hiring constraint we have never relaxed, and it is the main reason our cohorts stay small.

To be explicit
How we differ from a certification institute.
A certification institute sells you preparation for an exam owned by somebody else. Its product is a pass rate. Ours is a hire.
That difference shows up in every decision. We keep cohorts small because feedback does not scale. We grade projects rather than multiple-choice questions because employers interview on projects. We publish no pricing on this site because the right program depends on where you are starting, and quoting before we know that would be guessing at your expense.
You will finish with a completion certificate. It is the least interesting thing you leave with.
